JULY OF CONTROVERSIES??

This Month started with two controversial stories breaking. One story had most people pitched against a Preacher and the other story pitched most Nigerians against the decision of the President to establish a RURAL GRAZING AREA(RUGA).

The first story is the Rape allegation levelled against a popular sleek Pastor based in Abuja Nigeria by his former member and spiritual daughter, according to the woman the Pastor took advantage of his closeness to the woman's family and raped her about 20years ago when she was 17years of age. Many Nigerians especially celebrities condemned the Pastor which is understandable considering the fact that her husband is a popular Music artist and called for a protest at the church on Sunday 30th June 2019 which was compiled with albeit peacefully. Other Nigerians didn't join the bandwagon but chose to hear from the accused or better still wait for the authorities to conclude the investigations before finally judging the Pastor. Besides our justice system says that "Every accused person is assumed Innocent until proven guilty". I think that Nigerians should have waited before tearing down the Man's reputation because cases abound even in developed societies where some Men have been accused and even jailed for committing Rape but were later found to be innocent. Whatever the outcome of the investigations is we should tread with caution because a lot of lives(psychological trauma) are at stake especially the children of the accused who are mostly teenagers who would really suffer from the backlash of the negative media from the story.

The second story that broke out was the proposed RUGA settlement of the Federal government which seeks to have some sort of a living area for the nomadic herdsmen who are mostly Fulani by tribe. Many Nigerians especially from the southern part against this proposal argue that the Federal government has no right to direct state governments to give land to the herdsmen considering that it is a private business, every businessman should be able to fund his/her business including buying land. While those who support this says it is not a problem to establish a grazing area that will serve as a settlement for the herdsmen and prevent future skirmishes between farmers and Herders. The people who don't support RUGA argue that so many Fulani settlements today now been declared Emirates first started as grazing areas before being forcefully taken from the original land owners. In my opinion I think RUGA has already started informally long before now because no state in Nigeria is free of Fulani herdsmen settlers rearing their cattle for business, the problem those against it have is that the RUGA plan is for "Fulani foreigners" who maybe mercenaries from other countries.
However the good news is that the RUGA plan has been suspended till further notice even though some Northern state governors had already agreed to map out land for the RUGA settlement.
We pray and hope that the present administration should always feel the pulse of the common man before enacting any law.

GOD BLESS FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA!!!?

                        JUST MUSING 🤔
