AUGUST OF REVOLUTION?
This month started on a "Revolutionary" note in Nigeria. The publisher of Sahara Reports an online media platform Omoyele Sowore had few weeks ago called for Revolution in Nigeria with regards to the goings-on in the country, from the Insecurity situation(Kidnappings,Banditry,Cultisim etc), Economic woes, Human rights violations of the incumbent administration, and so on. Sincerely Mr Sowore isn't the first Nigerian to call for a change in the Modus operandi of the APC government, Religious leaders from the Christian and Muslim Faith,Past Leaders like President Obasanjo,Human rights activists and even civil society have called for an improvement in the way the country is been run. The present administration led by Muhammadu Buhari has rather chosen to ignore everyone including persons close to him like his wife Hajia Aisha Buhari who questioned a lot of things being done wrongly by her husband's administration. The government of Buhari rather than listen attentively to the complaints of Nigerians irrespective of who is making the complaint and find out what to do to change things for the better for over 200million Nigerians he rather chooses to see every complainant as being sponsored by the opposition.
The elections of 2019 would have been an opportunity for Nigerians to successfully effect the change they desired but the elections was marred with irregularities. The electoral law which would have gone a long way in solving the problems of election rigging was tactically relegated to the background and the President refused to sign it into law and gave flimsy excuses for not doing so. The hopeless Insecurity situation has led to various deaths all over the country with the Northern Nigeria including Katsina(GMB's home state) under attack. Every state in Nigeria is a very helpless and hopeless insecurity state, Road travel which is the most affordable for the common Nigerian is now a nightmare especially for those traveling during the day time, the most pathetic and painful part of the problem is that even President's advisers who obviously know the truth have selfishly refused to tell him the bitter and ugly truth. How long are we going to continue to deceive ourselves in this country?!. Muhammadu Buhari and his Party APC who called for Revolution and even demonstrated that by participating in several protests in the past against previous governments in Nigeria suddenly has become scared of the word "Revolution and Protest". Just recently the Shiite Movement whose leader was detained by Buhari for almost 5years was granted by the court to travel abroad for treatment, this is coming after several court orders were not obeyed by the administration claiming that security was the reason for the continued detention of the sect leader who I must not fail to mention is a perceived enemy considering the President's Religious leaning(Sunni Muslim) even though Shi'ite is also a Muslim sect. The perception whether rightly or wrongly is that every "enemy" of Buhari is automatically an enemy of the State.Colonel Ibrahim Dasuki is still in detention even after several courts within and outside Nigeria had ruled in favour of a Bail for the former National Security Adviser under GEJ who also is a perceived enemy of PMB because he was the officer who allegedly arrested him after Former President Ibrahim Babangida ousted him from power in 1986.
Mr Omoyele Sowore may have bitten more than he could chew according to APC and Muhammadu Buhari by calling out Nigerians into the streets to protest against bad governance etc.,he was arrested by operatives of DSS on Saturday 3rd August just two days to the planned Protest of Monday 5th August 2019. Many Nigerians have called for his unconditional release while some believe that the arrest was the right thing to do to prevent breakdown of law and order. The third group of people believe that Omoyele is working covertly with the administration for reasons I can't seem to fathom and that his(Sowore)Presidential ambition caused a lot of ripples in the political sphere. Demanding accountability, responsibility, transparency and justice isn't too much to ask from those ruling the country. Those in leadership positions today should realize that Power is Transient and they should strive to leave outstanding legacies that would write their name in gold. We hope that Omoyele Sowore's legal team would get him out of detention sooner than later.
GOD BLESS NIGERIA!!
JUST MUSING🤔
