GENERAL ELECTIONS IN NIGERIA THE INTRIGUES AND OUTCOME.

The just concluded 2019 General Elections in Nigeria has drawn mixed reactions both from Nigerians and the International community(observers). While some claim that the elections where free, credible and fair and as such the results announced been the reflection of the will of the people. Some others believe that its credibility was in serious doubt especially considering the militarization of certain states believed to be the strongholds of the Major opposition party People's Democratic Party(PDP) which is mainly in the South East/South South parts of the country. Lives and properties were  lost in the violence that broke out in these parts, many more people have continued to die from injuries sustained as a result of the chaos. This trend is so worrisome considering the fact that stakeholders spent resources to educate the populace on the importance of avoiding every form of electoral violence.

The governorship elections remains inconclusive in some states and the Major opposition PDP have alleged that the results from such states was in their favor and that the Umpire was biased for saying that such states were inclusive. There was also general voter apathy during the second round of the elections(governorship) and this was because of the  Presidential election results. As the elections will be concluded by 23rd March 2019,we sincerely hope that the violence experienced previously won't rear its ugly head again. And we appeal to the Umpire to remain unbiased to avoid any unnecessary triggers on already frayed nerves.

Subsequently,in future General Elections the Umpire Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) should begin preparations on time to avoid the confusion that reigned few weeks to the elections, and they must seen to be very Neutral in whatever they do. Over militarization of the elections should be totally discouraged to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and properties.Politicians as Major stakeholders must be willing and ready to play their own parts without violence of any sort. Winning shouldn't be a do or die affair,a winner must show great sportsmanship towards the looser because the tables might turn by the next elections.

Patriotism should be embedded in the heart of every stakeholder including the electorates. We seize this opportunity to commiserate with the families of the dead ,May their souls Rest In perfect Peace in Jesus name Amen.According to the former president Dr.Goodluck Ebele Jonathan"His ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian", every politician should imbibe the same spirit. We must never forget that Power is Transient.
