THE NINTH NIGERIAN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AND LEADERSHIP CHOICE
The ninth National assembly will officially be inaugurated today 11th of June 2019, and in the usual routine Senators and House of Representatives members will be sworn in today. The Leadership of both the Upper and Lower Chambers(Red&Green) will also be decided today.
During the build up to this inauguration a lot of lobbying went on amongst politicians both members and non members alike in order to choose a successor for Senator Bukola Saraki(Out gone Senate President) and Rt.Hon Yakubu Dogara(Out gone Speaker). Some individuals indicated their interests to contest but some names actually stood out because these names were individuals who lost out in their bid in 2015 due to miscalculations by their party and were only appeased with the Majority leadership of both Upper and Lower chambers. These individuals who also have the backing of the ruling party seems to be walking to victory already.
As the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives will be decided today by the members themselves,they should in all sincerity and sense of purpose choose Leaders who will always represent the interest of Nigerians irrespective of our differences, people who will stand up for the Truth without Fear or Favor. A National Assembly that won't be a rubber stamp for the Executive Arm of Government but will realize that the Legislature like the Judiciary is an independent Arm of the Federal Government of Nigerian and not an Appendage of the Executive.
The overall interest of Nigerians should supercede and remain paramount more than any Party affiliations and godfatherism factor which has been the bane of Nigerian Politics, I hope and pray that this 9th Assembly will improve on and surpass the gains of the 8th Assembly. I wish them a fruitful, dedication to duty and happy stay in the Red and Green chambers.
May God grant them wisdom to do what is right for the benefit of the common Nigerian Man/Woman,Boy/Girl,Old/Young irrespective of Tribe,Religion and Status.
