TWO DECADES OF UNINTERRUPTED DEMOCRATIC PROCESS IN NIGERIA

History is being made today May 29th 2019 as we celebrate democracy day, this is because we are celebrating twenty(20) years of Nigeria return to Democratic rule after over sixteen(16) years from 1983-1999 military rule, that is excluding the military coup of the 60's,70's. The elections of 1993 which would have given us a democratically elected President was annulled and an interim Govt put in place by the military government then, but their tenure was short-lived because another military coup took place after about three months.
Therefore when Gen. Abdul Salam Abubakar(rtd) handed over to President Olusegun Obasanjo a former Head of state (who ironically handed over to  President Shehu Shagari after conducting the elections as a Military head of state in 1979) on May 29th 1999 it was celebration galore, because as they say "The worst form of Democracy is still better than the best of Military Rule".  This is the longest so far democracy has stayed without the military taking over in Nigeria and as such it calls for celebrations by well meaning Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religion and even party affiliations.

This year's celebration is not just another Democracy day but the swearing-in ceremony for the President Muhammadu Buhari's second term in office. The Nigerian Minister of Information Alhaji Lai Mohammad announced that the swearing-in ceremony will be low key today and that Democracy day( Buhari had changed the Democracy day from May 29th) will be celebrated on June 12th in honor of Bashorun MKO Abiola the acclaimed winner of the 1993 annulled Presidential elections.

I want to seize this opportunity to appreciate and congratulate Nigerians on their doggedness, perseverance and optimism in the face of Bokoharam attacks, Banditry,Kidnappings, inflation,Recession, Militancy,Herders/Farmers clash,Unpaid salaries, Little dividends of Democracy etc  the Democracy we dreamt of may not have delivered all our expectations but we are very hopeful and optimistic. As we begin another four years of a Buhari led administration  we expect him to sit up and take  charge, be impartial and very sincere in discharging his duties as the President of the nation.  Good leadership enables the country grow in every ramification, great nations were made by dedicated, determined, disciplined and God fearing Men/Women in leadership positions.
I wish my fellow compatriots/ Nigerians many more years  uninterrupted Democracy.

Long Live Federal Republic of Nigeria
Congratulations! GOD BLESS NIGERIA

                        JUST MUSING🤔
